The Rest of the Story

Saw the following Facebook post from a college baseball player I know: “Pitched in the semi final of the conference tournament, threw 4 innings and had 8 strikeouts…championship game tomorrow! All the glory to God”. Sounded interesting, so I looked up the details on the college’s athletics website.

After the starting pitcher allowed a hit and two walks while only getting one out in the bottom of the first, the friend came on in relief. All three runners scored. After pitching a scoreless second inning he allowed four more runs in the third, giving the opposition the lead. He was taken out in the fifth inning after allowing another run. Fortunately his team went on to score six runs in the last four innings to retake the lead and win the game.

He did strike out eight in 4.1 innings, but also allowed five runs, five hits, a walk – plus the three runners he inherited all scored. Now you know the rest of the story.

Perry, another of Will’s former teammates, made the All USA South Conference team this spring. Playing third base for Covenant College, he hit .324 with 3 homers and 30 RBIs. Braeden only played in four games, going 1-8 at the plate.

While on the subject of baseball, here is one more photo of those wonderful Black Crackers uniforms.
