Black Friday Fire

Lunchtime on Friday. Everyone's here - twenty-two milling about, making final preparations for the big meal. Then came the smoke. Nothing surprising about that. Some made unhurried efforts to turn on fans - including the powerful attic fan.

But the smoke kept coming. It wasn't just smoke - there was fire. And it was going away. Half the group was trying to extinguish the flames. Rolls and other foods were removed from the oven. Where was that baking soda?
I looked across the kitchen. Those not working to put out the fire had out their phones - filming the action. Anna shot the footage, and Chase added the great shots.
Finally Will picked up the fire extinguisher and popped a shot into the oven, dousing the blaze immediately. But oh the smell.

Barney took the opportunity to run out the open front door. Earlier he and Okie had played chase out in the yard. Phil and Lennie were talked by the open front door of an old Jeep. Barney hopped in and smiled.

That's when the Jefferson Fire Department showed up. I explained what happened and invited him in for lunch, but he declined. He had to get back and file a report. Eventually I got Barney out of the Jeep and back in the house.

Lunch was late but entertaining, with Dic and Phil and Trish leading the way. Phil has been panning for gold, but won't tell anyone where. Trish went with him and saw a rattlesnake.
Got everyone out on the front porch for a group picture - but no one had a camera. Hung out on the porch enjoying the beautiful day. Anna gave Rusty a haircut. Later the kids played a game (below).
Texas robbed of a touchdown, despite the replay clearly showing the ball over the goal line. Wondered if TCU bought their hideous purple face masks at a Black Friday sale. I was more impressed with TCU's backup quarterback than the starter.
