Fournette < Herschel

I admit, Leonard Fournette is a beast. I would rather have him on my team than the great Nick Chubb. Is he comparable to Hershel? Not yet, for sure. Fournette may equal of better Walker’s sophomore season records, but can he equal Walker college AND professional careers? Highly doubtful. Herschel gained more yards than any other player in football history.

One thing is for sure – up to this point in his career Fournette is FAR behind Herschel’s pace. In his first two seasons (24 games) Hershel rushed for 3741 yards. For Fournette to equal that mark he must average 264 yards per game - in his next seven games. This week Fournette became the first collegian to rush for over 200 yards in three straight games, averaging 235 yards per game.

Since LSU’s season opener was cancelled, Fournette has played one fewer game than Chubb. Below I compare Fournette’s 17 college games to Chubb and Walker’s games 2-18.

1927: Walker’s rushing total for his first 13 games – 12 as a freshman and the 1981 season opener.
1547: Chubb’s freshman yardage in 13 games. As a backup in the first five games Chubb only rushed for 224 yards.
1034: Fournette’s freshman yardage in 13 games.

1766: Herschel set the freshman rushing record in 12 games, including the Sugar Bowl against #2 Notre Dame.
1281: Chubb’s first 12 games.
0891: Fournette’s first 12 games.

Chubb has rushed for at least 113 yards in his last 13 games, equaling Herschel’s UGA record. Fournette has only broken the hundred yard barrier in 9 of his last 13 games.
