Will He Stay or Will He Go?

Don’t get me started on Justin Fields. His family members are saying he’s considering transferring, so it’s all over social media that it’s a done deal. I wasn’t about to listen to Steak blabber about Fields. Steak has been lobbying for the transfer all season.

Transferring is the new norm in college football. UGA has benefitted from several recent inbound transfers, from Southern Cal, Notre Dame, and Alabama, for starters. Fields should know a few things: talking to the media only makes things worse. Transferring shows you made the wrong decision, which I guess is a good thing to try and get it right.

He’s considering Oklahoma, Ohio State, FSU, and maybe Florida. Where’s he gonna go that doesn’t already have talented QB’s ahead of him? Prediction: Justin’s QB rating will never be as high as it was this past season (92).

Fields could redshirt and play in four key games. It’s clear he needs to develop as a passer and reader of defenses. And Fromm could get hurt. Fields is super talented, for sure. He’s a better athlete than Fromm. But right now Jake is a better QUARTERBACK. That’s one thing that’s come out of this, they see how good Fromm has performed – third in the nation behind Tua and Kyler.

Saw a stat that 75% of all five star (top rated) QB’s transfer (are close to 100% spoiled brats?). Some transfer twice, like the NC State QB. Bama QB Jalen Hurts got his diploma this past weekend, and received a standing ovation from the crowd. Jalen didn’t transfer, but came off the bench to play in almost every game, then replaced the injued Tua and won the SEC championship for Bama.

Players skipping bowl games to prepare for the NFL draft is another “me first” move. If I was a NFL team I would consider that a negative – a player skipping out on his team. UGA’s award winning defensive back is playing in the bowl game, as well as Kentucky’s junior running back Benny Snell. Two key LSU defenders are skipping the Fiesta Bowl, giving underdog UCF a better chance of winning. LSU won’t be motivated to play hard, but undefeated UCF will be gunning for the win (we both picked UCF).

Maybe GT will get a transfer QB (they signed the QB from Milton’s state championship team). I hear they’re getting a graduate transfer offensive lineman. Once you graduate you are free to transfer, supposedly if your college doesn’t have the graduate school program you want to attend.

One of the reasons Boston College does good year after year is because their team is stocked will so many of those hard-nosed blue collar Catholic school-type players. Look at the offensive and defensive lines and linebackers – sometimes undersized but they play harder than most. BC usually gives Clemson a run for their money when they play.

Thought: fewer players would transfer if they’d just give all of them a Heisman Trophy.

Ceil wants to see Mary Poppins really bad, but we’ll be too busy until after new years. I want to see it as well. I told you that movie with Tom Hanks playing Walt Disney “Saving Mr. Banks” is real good, and includes several Mary Poppins songs.

Monday: stayed at work past 7 pm last night. Sent out twenty Christmas cards. Left the office and dropped off a trunkload to Goodwill. Mailed the cards and stopped by the library, Kroger, and Dollar Tree. Didn’t get home until 8:30.

Ceil had made homemade refried beans (cooked but not fried) and rice, so I made an enchilada. Matthew ate with us. After supper M made peanut butter oatmeal balls, adding chocolate chips, honey, flax seed, and other ingredients. I had a few for breakfast this morning.

Watched The Voice. Ceil turned on the Hallmark Channel and I went out to gas up the CRV. Then I went to bed.

This afternoon I left work at 2:50 pm and drove to Augusta. Dinner there with my boss. Tomorrow we take physical inventory. Coworkers Rachel G, Rachel V, and Angie are coming as well. Guess we ought to take a team picture.
