Back to the Future

Saturday I watched the movie classic Back to the Future. When it ended it's sequel came on immediately afterwards. The first scene in the sequel is the exact same as the final scene in the original – except Marty's girlfriend is played by a different actress (Elizabeth Shue) in the sequel.

The entire scene was re-shot. The pacing is said to be slightly faster in the sequel, with fewer pauses. More on this tomorrow. I know you can't wait.

Another good movie: The Intern, with Robert DeNiro playing a bored widower retiree, who takes a job at a small online company.

Friday: stopped by two thrift stores, so I didn't get home until 6:30. We went to Avalon to eat at Superica. Long wait but it was worth it. We shared the chicken quesadillias. Also beans and rice.

Saturday: early AM golf (details below). Then to Truist Park for BravesFest. Long line to get in. Went straight to the sale in the Chop House, which was crammed with people. Missed on the 4 ring sets for $10, which people were hoarding. Bought a leather baseball belt, Nike performance t-shirt, and pair of Stance socks for $15.00. The entire park was packed so I left. Later I learned they restocked the rings. Ugh.

Drove through Steak & Shake for a milkshake. Was getting on 285 east when my car died on the busy entrance ramp, a stone's throw from where M's car had died in December. Stood off to the side for 30 minutes waiting on a tow truck. Should've taken a picture.

M was out delivering baked goods. He left two heavenly donuts for me to eat. Yum. Did laundry and had movies playing on the TV.

Dinner with six other couples, catered by a cajun restaurant: gumbo, salad, two kinds of sausage, german chocolate cake. A good time. The wine flowed. I had my usual Diet Coke.

Sunday school and worship. Clay preached on Genesis 1:27-31 focusing on God creating man as male and female. His words were clear and concise (notes & link to follow). C fixed BBQ for lunch. A nap and the NFL playoffs. Folded laundry.

Ran at the gym this morning. Todd brought in Martin's cathead hicken biscuits to the office, and I couldn't resist. Got a busy week:

Monday: small group.

Tuesday: focus group.

Wednesday: road trip.

Thursday men's dinner at church.

Saturday golf notes…

1. Hit four drives waiting on my playing partner (also hit the putting green). All 4 drives landed in the same area. Decent 5 iron short of the green. Chip didn't look pretty but went where I needed. Two putt for bogey.

2. Terrible 3 wood, than a better mulligan. Chipped short, then a better chip. Did I sink the bogey putt? Can't remember.

3. Two terrible 6 irons off the tee. Two more bad chips before a serviceable one. Decent lag putt, but missed the second putt.

4. Cruddy 6 iron off tee, but I played it. Two cruddy chips, actually three. Putt rolled far past hole down hill. Might've made the nice come backer.

5. Decent 5 wood off tee. Chip wasn't pretty, but it got a good roll…all the way off the back of the green. We went to look for my ball but inexplicably couldn't find it anywhere. Finally realized the ball had rolled under the pallet holding the big tarp. Okay chip and two putt.

6. Hit driver off the tee. Decent distance and straight. Okay 5 iron, also straight. Chip wasn't the greatest, but it got a good roll down hill toward the hole. I struck a good putt that was going to be right of the hole - until it hit an acorn and veered left closer to the hole. I made the short bogey putt.

7. Drive got good distance, though it sliced right all the way over to the 8th fairway. Okay hybrid crested the hill, but further left than I would've liked. Couldn't find that ball, but found another. Not the best 5 iron. Real good chip to the fringe, then I drained the long putt. Shot of the day.

8. A good drive, long and pretty straight. I hit a 7 iron. Not pretty and further left than I would've liked, but the ball settled on the fringe inches from the green. Three putt for bogey.

9. I hit a good straight 3 wood off the tee. Good distance (for me). Bad chip. Mulligan chip wasn't pretty, but stopped on the hilly green. But it took me a few putts to finish the round.

MARQUIS GRISSOM  [SABR Bio] was the first player to end a league championship series game by stealing home, in the bottom of the 12th of game three of the 1997 ALCS on 11-Oct-1997. This was properly scored a steal, but may have actually been either a botched suicide squeeze bunt by Omar Vizquel, a passed ball by Oriole catcher Lenny Webster, or as contested by irate Oriole manager Davey Johnson, merely a foul tip.  Watch this clip and try to make the call. Grissom hit the first home run in Petco Park, in the 10th inning on 08-Apr-2004. Grissom is the only player to compile a consecutive game hitting streak of at least 15 games in the World Series while appearing for two different teams.
