New Years Weekend

The in-laws arrived Saturday, along with Anna’s 12 and 9 year-old nieces. Watched most all of the Pats/Giants game, it was a pretty good game. Could’ve watched more of the Sunday Colts/Titans game, but was on the internet instead. Nice to get the house cleaned up. PaPa John’s, Moe’s, KFC.

Saw the “Magic Emporium Movie” Sunday, which was not bad. Yesterday we saw Martian Child…I liked all the actors, but the story wasn’t that great. It got out just before 7 pm, so we probably just missed you guys.

Then I had to drive past Discover Mills to pick up Will from a party…luckily someone else took him. That’s when it hit me that work started today. Got there right when they were eating. I need to just say no! Listened to the WSB radio pregame of the Sugar Bowl driving out there. Only got to watch the end of the first half and most all of the second half.

WSB interviewed the commissioner of the SEC, who’s currently serving as BCS commissioner. He’s in favor of an expanded playoff. Seems like the Rose Bowl is blocking the whole process. They must like their time slot and money they’re making, and don’t want to change.

In this political BCS age, I think Richt did what he had to do last night…dominate Hawaii. They were in a no win position: expected to win big…if they lost or barely won the “experts” would’ve blasted UGA, as it was there was talk they ran up the score. But Hawaii made several comebacks this year, so UGA had to play hard the whole way. Richt cleared the bench the whole fourth quarter…Hawaii was no match for Georgia’s speed. They also had to win big to help with next year’s preseason ranking, so they’d be best positioned to compete for a spot in the national championship game.

Exciting Chick-fil-A Bowl. Francoeur gave the Opening Prayer (the last time Clemson played in the bowl Bartkowski did it). Truett Cathy’s son Dan, who runs the company, belted out the National Anthem on his trumpet. Clemson could have won, but the kicker missed two he should’ve made, and the QB had his worst game of the season. I still think they could use their talented running backs better. Traffic wasn’t bad. After the game I kept zagging right and south while everyone else zigged north. Wound up getting on the interstate at Fulton Street, near Turner Field. The clock struck midnight as we sped through downtown/midtown on the Connector…saw Atlantic Station fireworks.

While we were at the game all the women are at California Pizza Kitchen at North Point Mall…along with Matthew and Ceil’s friend from Virginia. Must’ve been a table of eight.

Of course the Falcons win their last game. Nice that they won the tie-breakers to pick third. Had the Falcons lost, would they not have picked second, since the Rams beat them this year? We’ll see if the Dolphins and Rams both pass on McFadden, though one of them could trade their pick.

Not starting off good on my New Year’s diet!
