Herschel > Edgerrin

This year Edgerrin James is the only running back named as a finalist for election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He appears to be a worthy choice, with over 15500 yards rushing and receiving. We’ll find out before the Super Bowl whether he gets voted in.

James gained his 12246 yards rushing on over three thousand carries, an average of 4.0 yards per carry. As impressive as his stats are, they’re not quite as good as Herschel’s. Walker averaged 4.2 yards per carry. With over one thousand fewer carries than Edgerrin, Herschel still gained over 2500 more total NFL yards – catching more passes for 1500 more receiving yards, more touchdown receptions, fewer fumbles, and more years and games played. The icing on the cake: Walker had 5084 return yards to James’ zero.

Perhaps Herschel is being held out of the hall because of his religion. He isn’t shy about invoking the name of Jesus when he talks. Maybe his politics are keeping him out. Since Herschel played for Trump in the USFL, and appeared on some of his TV shows, some think the Heisman Trophy winner is a puppet for the President. Not true. This weekend I stumbled across an interview published this past October before Walker participated in something called the Congressional Football Game, a fund-raiser for the Washington police.

Herschel: Donald and I have been together since 1982, and I respect the White House. I’m still his friend, and I will always be his friend. But you know what? There’s some things that he’s done that have been terrible. The SOB statement was awful; he should have never said that. But to be honest with you, I know Donald, and Donald Trump is a good man. He is not a racist. I’ve been with the man, I ate with the man, I kept his kids, and he’s not a racist. I know he’s trying to do the best he can, but how can he do the best he can when everyone he elects to his Cabinet disagrees with him? Give him a chance. One thing that’s great about America, in four years you can get rid of him. But if we’re gonna fight this whole time, whoever we elect in 2020, whether it’s Donald Trump or someone else, are we gonna fight against him too because they don’t like him because he’s not Democratic or Republican?

Here’s more on the Congressional Football Game. A noble cause that gets a modicum of media coverage. Doesn’t sound like good offensive football – this past year the guards won 6-0 on a pick six. Lots of wounded ducks on the video.
